WHAT ARE THE NECESSARY SKILLS?
This ride is only for experienced riders... It is a soft enduro tour where you will find lots of tricky singletrails, steep downhills/uphills, narrow turns and millions of roots and stumps! Please don't register if you're not the right rider's profile, this will affect all the group and you'll probably hate the tour after all.
WHAT IS THE BEST BIKE FOR THE RIDE?
As it is a soft enduro, a full suspension with at least 140mm of travel will be OK. Marathon or Crosscountry bikes can ride too, of course, but probably you will find the limits of safety and comfort of it on that day. Make sure you have enough profile on the tires. Fast rolling XC tires are really not ment for this terrain.
WHAT IS REALLY ENDURIDE VERDUN?
It is a soft enduro tour through the former battle field of WW1. 50mio bombs fell in that area during the WW1 and makes this terrain unique on earth. 100yrs later you can still see the devastation. Bomb craters can be small, but some are very large and the handling of the bike in these conditions is not usual. It looks like a pumptrack but all over the 35km of the tour. It is very hard and tiresome. The 800m of climbs are way more heavy as a sunday tour on your usual trail.
I NEVER RODE ENDURO OR DH:
This is a soft enduro tour, or you can call it "trail tour" but some spots are more difficult as trail but not enough to call it enduro. It is definitely NO downhill. Our local spotter knows the best singletrails up there and he can match the tour to the group's level. No jumps / gaps or bikepark staff is included on the tour. If there is a jump or else you will be able to take a chickenway all the time.
WHAT DO I NEED TO CARRY?
Helmet is mandatory! If you want to wear a fullface helmet it's up to you but it can be uncomfortable in climbs. Knee & Ellbow protections are a very good gear for this tour. Back Pack will also be helpful to protect you in case of crash or simply carry your sandwich and multi tools. You should take at minimum 1L of water and some food for a lunch stop. Depending on the weather, dry clothes or a windshell water repellant vest should be in your bag too.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
For those who come by their self, some GPS don't know the right position. Drive to the "Ossuaire de Douaumont" . Continue on the road along the graveyard on your left. When you arrive on top of the hill, go straight ahead at the crossroad and you will find the parking on your right. Otherwise come to the meeting point at 8am and we'll drive there together.
